Roles

Act I, Scene 1: “HANNAH” and “BILLY”, both late 30s-early 50s meet to discuss custody of their teenage daughter. California and New York sensibilities collide in a battle of wits and wills, as these divorced parents realize that their love for their daughter trumps their mutual contempt.

Act I, Scene 2: “MARVIN” - mid 30s-mid 40s – awakes to find “BUNNY” passed out next to him in bed, when his wife, “MILLIE” – mid 30s-mid 40s – calls to say she’s on her way up the suite. What begins as a comic farce as he attempts to hide the immobile prostitute from his wife, turns into an exploration of our capacity to wound and forgive. “BUNNY” is a non speaking but very rich comedic role for a woman in her 20s-early 30s.

Act II, Scenes 1 & 2: “DIANA”-to play 40s through early 60s; British movie star coming to the twilight of her career; creatively unhappy; scene opens in Los Angeles hotel, on the night she is up for an Oscar, which she does not win. “SIDNEY”- to play 30s thru early 60s; British antique dealer; married to Diana, in name only. Diana is at a cross-roads in her life, as an actress and a woman. Sidney cannot give any more. BRITISH ACCENTS REQUIRED!

Act II, Scene 3: "MORT” & “BETH” are married and on vacation in Los Angeles with their good married friends, “STU” & “GERT”. Age range for both couples-late 20s thru early 40s. All 4 live in Chicago. They’ve taken trips together a lot. Why they have, they are beginning to question. Because of what happens in a hotel room in Los Angeles, they will probably never vacation together again. Scene is physical; be prepared to do heavy lifting, fall down, and move all over the stage & have fun while the characters are in pain.
